The two most infamous of the video game problems that have resulted in all sorts of internet shenanigans would be the Xbox 360′s red ring of death, and the PS3′s yellow light of death, or ylod for short. Both of these are catastrophic for the owners and result in plenty of frustration, sometimes a bit of anger and occasionally some cussing on the part of the owner. Repairing these problems can be costly and time consuming and plenty of people just abandon the console and move along to something else.
It shouldn’t be that way though. There are so many options for avoiding these problems and dealing with them when they do occur. Very few people actually have these problems occur, but they certainly are no fun if they do happen. On a percentage basis it is supposedly less than 10% for either console to have these maladies show up.
The best news for many people is that there are guides and repair shops that can perform these repairs for any sort of error or malfunction for a cheap price. Of course, using the warranty if it is still in effect may be the most cost effective way of doing this, but for everyone else, why not try and fix it on your own?
There may be some times where the consoles are just too far gone and damaged to work again, since everything will eventually wear out, but that isn’t all that common. Just be careful and make sure that you take your time and don’t get over anxious. If you do you could very well cause more damage and get even more frustrated.
The best place to start is actually Youtube. There are a ton of guides and demonstrations on that site that can get you started. Then look into a guide if you need more help.
